The pursuit of life for the wounded on the fighting fronts of World War II

Blood and plasma may be the greatest gift of the “Greatest Generation”-their life’s blood given back at home for the wounded on the fighting front. They sent more than a million pints to war! And we will never know how many men and women walk the world today – or will do so in generations to come – because the life of a father or grandfather was saved by one of those gifts of a blood donor during World War II.
A radio show called Life to the Front, broadcast weekly over WEEI, the Columbia Broadcasting System’s New England network outlet in Boston, helped keep alive the connection between the home front and the fighting fronts.
Each week the broadcast was dedicated “To all the men of the armed forces of the United States… who – on every fighting front in the world – daily risk their lives in the service of their country……that they might live.”
Out for Blood includes first-hand accounts of actual participants in some of the war’s toughest battles, and features actual scripts from Life to the Front.

*** The Surface Navy Association CAPT Raymond Komorowski Photography Award for 2015.
The award was initiated to pictorially represent the professional activities and life of the diverse elements of the Surface Warfare Community and their contribution to naval warfare; to educate the citizens of the United States as to the purpose of the Surface Warfare department and its achievements; to provide archival material; and to reinforce interest in the Surface Warfare profession.
This year the awards will be divided into three categories:
- Ships
- Operations (gunner, refueling, etc)
- Personal Interest and/or Family
Thee photographs from each category will be selected. From these a single Grand Prize Winner will be determined. The Grand Prize Winner will receive $500 and an invitation to attend SNA’s Annual Symposium. The other 8 finalists will be awarded $100 each. The contest is open to both amateur and professional photographers. Limit of three (3) submissions per photographer.
All photos become the property of the Surface Navy Association for exclusive use until thirty days after the SNA Annual Symposium. Prize photos will be submitted for possible publication in Surface Warfare Magazine. The winning photographs will be displayed appropriately at the annual SNA Symposium.
Submissions are currently being accepted via email at awards@navysna.org. All submissions must be 300dpi images or greater and must be scalable to poster size for possible display during the symposium. Submission deadline is 1 November.
Entries must not have been previously published, in any media accessible to the general public or Navy-wide. Prior publication could result in the relinquishment of prize awards

Description of Duties:
- Serve as a Senior Avionics Engineer (Radar, Electronic Warfare Systems) Sr. for a major FMS F-16 upgrade program.
- Accomplish and assist with CONUS and OCONUS travel in support of F-16 program meetings, reviews, audits, and other activities held at government and contractor facilities. Unaccompanied and unsupervised travel is required.
- Support the engineering and technical design, development, integration, verification, qualification for airworthiness certification, and fielding of F-16 AESA radar, electronic warfare, and self-protection systems.
- Support, monitor, and assess prime contractor and major sub-contractor radar, electronic warfare and self-protection systems design, development, integration, and verification activities.
- Monitor and assess F-16 contractors’ efforts, keeping abreast of system schedules, performance progress, and resolution of technical problems.
- Investigate and recommend appropriate action concerning the need to redirect engineering efforts, pursue additional lines of development, and determine compromises on previously established requirements if required.
- Assist with the preparation of technical requirements in support of development of LOAs and LOA amendments.
- Support the development of avionics technical tasks to be completed for inclusion in the overall program schedule.
- Support the development of avionics system requirements for inclusion in the program Airworthiness Certification Plan and program SEP.
- Assist LOA Line Managers in resolving technical and schedule issues.
- Provide technical assistance to engineers, lead and chief engineers, PMs and other program team members.
- Support feasibility studies and technical evaluations to ensure that electronic warfare and self-protection systems meet overall technical and operational requirements.
- Assess technical risks and recommend options to be considered by F-16 programs.
- Participate in RFP development and in evaluation of contractor proposals in support of F-16 production and modification programs.
- Assist in writing, assembling, and integrating the technical requirements of RFPs including SRDs, SOWs, CDRLs, and DD Forms 610.
- Assist with the evaluation of F-16 contractor proposals to assess compliance with RFP requirements.
- Participate in activities associated with proposal evaluations including source selections, technical evaluations, and fact-finding.
- Participate in the various standing F-16 activities and organizations including the F-16 Consolidated Board, F-16 JMCCT/B, F-16 AB, F-16 CRTs, and F-16 System Safety Groups (e.g. SSG, SSWG, MSTG).
- Participate in formal and informal F-16 program reviews and meetings, TIMs, and configuration audits.
Basic Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Electrical or Electronics Engineering.
- 10 years of DoD acquisition program office experience.
- Demonstrate expertise in U.S. Military fighter-bomber aircraft fire control radar development and integration experience, Electronic Warfare threats and countermeasures techniques and testing for fire control radars, and precision Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) mapping processes and test processes.
- Experience in U.S. Military aircraft electronic warfare and self-protection systems development and integration.
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) and applications for access to the world wide web including Microsoft Internet Explorer.
- US Citizenship with an active DoD Secret Government clearance. (Applicants selected will be subject to a Government investigation and must meet eligibility requirements to retain an active DoD Secret- Government clearance)
