Issue # 387

“O conscience, upright and stainless, how bitter a sting to thee is a little fault!”

– Dante Alighieri

***  Welcome to the latest edition of the number one Defense Career Opportunities Newsletter, “DEFCON-1,” a networking newsletter featuring job opportunities and career advice for those who are part of the global defense, aerospace, maritime, marine technology and security industry.

DEFCON 1 brings you job opportunities every week, and counts on members like you to submit job listings to share and post in this newsletter.

Note:  The DEFCON 1 newsletters for 17 and 24 September were not published due to travel.

Help the network grow.  Sign up a friend.  They can join for free simply by visiting http://bit.ly/JOTWSubscribe and selecting DEFCON 1.

***  You can also subscribe to this and my other two newsletters at http://bit.ly/JOTWSubscribe.  The Job of the Week serves communication professionals.  Your Very Next Step is my travel/outdoors/adventure/conservation newsletter.  They’re all free!

***  To change your email address for DEFCON 1, use the unsubscribe button at the bottom of your newsletter, and then subscribe with your new address at:  http://bit.ly/JOTWSubscribe.

When you learn about a job opportunity in the defense sector, such as a position that comes open with your company, you send me the title, organization, location, and a brief description; link; or contact information, and I’ll share.  This is a cooperative network.  That means everyone’s participation is required to provide job opportunities to share.

I never give out, rent, or sell my list, and neither does Topica.

***  Out for Blood – The pursuit of life for the wounded on the fighting fronts of World War II

by Anastasia Kirby Lundquist

Blood and plasma may be the greatest gift of the “Greatest Generation”-their life’s blood given back at home for the wounded on the fighting front. They sent more than a million pints to war! And we will never know how many men and women walk the world today – or will do so in generations to come – because the life of a father or grandfather was saved by one of those gifts of a blood donor during World War II.

A radio show called Life to the Front, broadcast weekly over WEEI, the Columbia Broadcasting System’s New England network outlet in Boston, helped keep alive the connection between the home front and the fighting fronts.

Each week the broadcast was dedicated “To all the men of the armed forces of the United States… who – on every fighting front in the world – daily risk their lives in the service of their country……that they might live.”

Out for Blood includes first-hand accounts of actual participants in some of the war’s toughest battles, and features actual scripts from Life to the Front.

***  Offshore Patrol Vessels Middle East: 8-10 December, Abu Dhabi, UAE – join Rear Admiral (Ret’d) Ahmed Al Sabab Al Teneiji, Former Chief of Naval Forces, UAE Navy and over 200 maritime security experts from the regional and international navies and MoDs as they discuss the latest trends, challenges and emerging threats impacting regional maritime security.

***  Coastal & Maritime Surveillance Middle East:  8-10 December, Abu Dhabi, UAE – Welcome to the premier International Summit aimed at strengthening naval operations in the Middle East. With recent global catastrophes highlighting the difficulty in delivering effective maritime operations, countries are now analysing and evaluating their current naval operations and asking how they can improve their maritime domain awareness (MDA).
