***  MCR DC Metro Charity Golf Outing

The 3rd Annual MCR DC Metro Charity Golf Outing is planned for Friday, October 9, 2015 at the South Riding Golf Club, South Riding, Virginia.  Like our sister MCR charity event in New England, all proceeds go to charities with local ties.  This year, our employee committee has once again chosen to support the Wounded Warrior Project. Last year we were able to donate $9,000 to the Wounded Warrior Project. This year we want to exceed that amount and give more than $10,000!  That is why everyone is welcome to play, donate cash or raffle items, sponsor a hole, or volunteer their time. Besides supporting a great cause, it is a wonderful networking event. You can register to play or make payments and donations using your credit card or Pay Pal account, or just get more information at our website  (http://bd.mcri.com/golf//).

This year we are proud to announce that the Golf Outing Committee has teamed with “Salute Military Golf Associates” or SMGA.  SMGA, a non-profit charity, provides rehabilitative golf experiences for post 9/11 Wounded Warriors and their families.  As part of this relationship we are asking for donations to sponsor SMGA participation.  Your donation will give an eligible veteran the chance to play golf and enjoy the outing event with supporters and friends.  If you would like to sponsor a SMGA player, simply enter “SMGA” in the name field on the web-based registration form, select “Player” in the dropdown box, and add your contact information.

If you have any questions please contract Gary Rogers at grogers@mcri.com.

***  Maritime Security 2015 Caribbean

Maritime Security 2015 Caribbean is different than any other event of its kind – designed to be an interactive learning and collaborative experience for all maritime security stakeholders, the program is a hybrid of conference and workshop. ***  Out for Blood – The pursuit of life for the wounded on the fighting fronts of World War II

by Anastasia Kirby Lundquist

Blood and plasma may be the greatest gift of the “Greatest Generation”-their life’s blood given back at home for the wounded on the fighting front. They sent more than a million pints to war! And we will never know how many men and women walk the world today – or will do so in generations to come – because the life of a father or grandfather was saved by one of those gifts of a blood donor during World War II.

A radio show called Life to the Front, broadcast weekly over WEEI, the Columbia Broadcasting System’s New England network outlet in Boston, helped keep alive the connection between the home front and the fighting fronts.

Each week the broadcast was dedicated “To all the men of the armed forces of the United States… who – on every fighting front in the world – daily risk their lives in the service of their country……that they might live.”

Out for Blood includes first-hand accounts of actual participants in some of the war’s toughest battles, and features actual scripts from Life to the Front.
