***  The U.S. Navy’s Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) community of professionals is the world’s premier combat force for countering Improvised Explosive Devices (IED), Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD), and all other Unexploded Ordnance (UXO).  An elite team of warriors, they operate around the world in every environment, parachuting from 25,000 feet or diving to depths of 300 feet.  Volunteering for the most hazardous missions, Navy EOD technicians are the “first in”– clearing the way for further combat operations.

To pay tribute to this elite group of professionals, the Navy Memorial unveiled a new exhibit about them Memorial Day weekend.  This display highlights the Navy EOD’s history, mission, training and current operations in the Global War on Terror.  The exhibit features photographs as well as an historic, original Navy Mark V Diving helmet and suit and the high-tech bomb suit currently used by Navy EOD.  Funded through the generosity of former EOD officer Glenn R. Jones and Jones International University, the exhibit will be on display for one year.  To see photos of the exhibit and to read about upcoming EOD programming, see the Navy Memorial's exhibit site.
